December Highlights V. C. Bird Day: A memorial is held every year on December 9th to commemorate the first prime minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Vere Cornwall Bird. January Highlights New Year's Day : Often locals will attend Old Year's Mass on December 31st and ring in the New Year by attending parties, clubs, and local fetes. February Highlights Wadadli Day: Take a leisurely ride to the St. John's Botanical Gardens to watch nationals play competitive games of Warri. While there, take a break to snack, drink, dance, and embrace the Antiguan culture. March Highlights Superyacht Challenge: This event welcomes superyachts to participate in a four days of racing. Superyachts are at least 80 feet (24 meters) long. You can find this ocean-filled event on the south coast of Antigua. Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta: This 4-day event has activities both on and offshore. In addition to boat races, you will find an open music mic night, drinks, and much more. April Highlights Antigua's Sailing Week: This international event takes place of the coast of English Harbour. Regatta yacht races are held in the last week of April. Antigua and Barbuda Kite International Kite Festival: This festival takes flight during the Easter weekend. Both young and old nationals bring homemade kites to fly in the tropical skies of Antigua. Holy Week: Dates vary yearly, but Holy Week is centered on when Easter begins. Holidays celebrated during the week include Easter Sunday & Monday. This week usually contains fasting and the avoidance of eating meat. Locals flock to their local churches on Sunday. Mondays are spent with family on drives or at the beach enjoying a picnic. Whit Monday: Often organizations or churches will host various family fetes and events. Fetes are usually themed: For example, A White Fete or a Jeans Fete. Mid SeasonThe Mid Season in Antigua is around 2 months long, while this island transitions from peak to low season. Mid-season is around May to June.
May Highlights: Labour Day: This day is supposed to be a holiday celebrating workers. However, the two dominant political parties (the one in power and the opposition) will have public speeches in the town areas.
