You are finished packing, but do you still feel like you might be missing something? In addition to the standard items for a vacation, there are a few must-haves when traveling to a tropical destination. Here are our top 12 things you should pack for a smoother trip.

Products

1. Sunscreen
Some people want the perfect tan when going to a tropical island. We get it - we also want to spend an entire day at a beautiful, sunny beach. However, it is always a good idea to apply sunscreen to prevent yourself from getting sunburned.

2. Insect Repellant
There is nothing like the sound of annoying mosquitos. Those tiny insects have a big bite that leaves some even bigger reactions. We recommend packing insect repellant to avoid an itchy vacation and to keep those bugs from ruining your perfect getaway.

3. Hats
People remember to walk with sunglasses to protect their eyes but forget about their beautiful heads. Be sure to pack a beach hat or baseball cap. If you plan to spend all day outside or at a beach protect your head from the sun.

4. Umbrella / Ponchos
Who packs an umbrella when they are going on a tropical vacation? People who refuse to let the rain ruin their plans. Yes tropical places are beautiful and sunny, however they also have rainy days and seasons. Rain does not equal ruined plans.

5. Bathing Suits / Swimwear
Bathing suits may be the first thing you should pack when headed on a tropical vacation. However, some people are so busy planning things to do that they forget the obvious. So, here is a friendly reminder.

6. Variety of Shoes
We understand that you want your toes to catch some sunrays too. But you will be happy when you have multiple choices of shoes. We recommend having at least one of each : (1) Casual (2) Formal (3) Activewear.

Appliances

7. Travel Adapter
When traveling overseas, you will likely find different electrical outlets. We suggest you do a little research into which outlet type your tropical destination is using. Purchase a travel adapter that can be converted for multiple outlets.

8. Portable Charger
If you like to take day trips, or plan to be away from your hotel for a long time, walk with a portable charger. You will not find a plug on that hike or on a long day at the secluded beach.

9. Reusable Water Bottle
Tropical destinations are a signal for warmer weather. Walking with a reusable water bottle will help you stay hydrated and save you a few dollars.

10. Cash
A quick tip: convert some cash at your local bank to your tropical destinations' currency.

Cash is still widely used at local shops, farmer's stands, etc. Also, scout for the nearest banks and check the conversion rates so you have an idea of how far your money will stretch.

11. Beach Bag
A perfect beach day is what we can hope for when going on a tropical vacation. To enjoy it to the fullest, create a checklist of items you will need for a day at the beach. Here are our top five items to get you started-  (1) Sunscreen, (2) a beach towel, (3) a reusable water bottle, (4) sunglasses / Hats, (5) Entertainment - a good book

12. Travel Documents
We have heard too many stories of people arriving at the airport to have forgotten the correct travel documents. We highly suggest checking your destination's official government site before you finish packing.
